TWO Alloa mums are hoping for some good old-fashioned community spirit, when they host a market for once-loved children's items.

Keen to lend a hand to others, and frustrated with the pieces cluttering their own homes, Sam Docherty and Joanne Clowry put their heads together.

They decided to organise an event in Clackmannanshire – Ben & Holly's Extravaganza – that will provide the space to sell unwanted clothes and accessories.

There will also be the opportunity to pick up some bargains, while youngsters can have fun with the range of activities on offer.

Joanne, 32, said: "Gone are the days when you hand down to your next door neighbour, or your granny's knits go to you and your kids. Those things just don't happen anymore.

"I think this is a great way for young mums, or more mature mums like myself, to get out and about and meet new mums and the kids [can] get to play at the park.

"We thought, why don't we just try something and see if there are other mums out there and hopefully it will help younger mums that are on tighter budgets.

"I've got two prams, prep machines, bottles, you name it – I've got a million bags and clothes."

The market will be held at Hawkhill Community Centre on Saturday, May 14 and stalls are available for £8, entry is £1.

Party People will decorate for the day and youngsters will be kept busy, with Glitter Face bringing Olaf, Elsa and Anna from Frozen to the occasion.

Sam, 26, said: "Basically for, I think we'll say probably about a £1, the kids will get to actually meet them, get pictures taken with them.

"Me and Jo, we've made up sweetie cones to give to the kids as well, just to make it a bit more fun.

"We're discussing little play games for the kids to keep occupied as well, like pin the dummy on the baby sort of thing."

The stall holders will keep their profits from the day, with any proceeds left over after overheads have been covered will go to Hawkhill Community Centre and Alva ASD Unit.
