POLICE believe adults are buying alcohol for youngsters in Clackmannanshire.

Following concerns from local residents regarding underage drinking, the community team carried out a pre-planned test purchasing operation at a number of off-sales across the Wee County.

All licensed premises passed, staff were challenging the young adult about their age and asked for ID. Staff were very vigilant about selling alcohol to under 18s and received a commendation.

Therefore, the force says, it would appear that booze is being bought for local youngsters by adults, which is a criminal offence.

Further operations are being planned and work is ongoing with shop staff to identify and deal with adults who are engaging in this sort of “completely unacceptable” behaviour.

According to police, drunk teenagers are responsible for a significant amount antisocial behaviour within the local community, especially at weekends, but they also leave themselves very vulnerable and at risk.
