A KINCARDINE man is hoping to trace the relatives of a WWI soldier, after he has found his grave in France.
Martin Millar recently visited the Vermelles British Cemetery to see the grave of his great-uncle, marking the 100th anniversary of his death.
His grandfather's brother, Alloa man Private Hugh Hutchison, was killed in action on May 7, 1916, when he was deployed with the 10th Gordon Highlanders.
When they were visiting, Martin and his wife discovered the grave of another Alloa soldier, Private T P Robertson.
Martin wrote: “While at the cemetery, we noticed another grave for an Alloa soldier, which was notable as there are very few headstones which have any personal message inscribed.
“I do not know if there is any chance that any relatives of the soldier can be traced, possibly still within the Clackmannanshire area, but if so, I would like them to know that the cemetery and graves are kept in immaculate condition.”
According to the headstone, the man, also from the Gordon Highlanders, died on May 23 1916 at the age of 20. He was the son of Mr and Mrs William Robertson of Alloa.
