THE Scottish SPCA is hand-rearing two red squirrel siblings in Clackmannanshire.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on 24 May when a member of the public discovered the kits in a commercial garage having ran through a pool of antifreeze.
The female squirrels, found orphaned in Elgin, are now being looked after at the charity’s National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross, where staff have named them Ginger and Spice.
Centre manager Colin Seddon said: "Ginger and Spice had scurried through a small puddle of antifreeze in the garage and their tails and feet were soaked in the substance.
"Thankfully, they had not ingested any of it as this is toxic to them.
"Ginger and Spice are doing really well and are currently being hand-reared with a special milk formula.
"It won’t be long until they are strong enough to be moved to one of our outdoor enclosures before being released back into the wild."
