CLACKMANNAN Primary School’s science and eco fair went down a storm.
Last Friday, friends and family members were treated to a showcase of the experiments each of the classes had undertook to learn about renewable energy.
Along with building and racing solar powered cars, the kids also had fun colouring kites, planting seeds and creating windmills.
P5/6 teacher Mrs Morag Clark hoped that the focus week would encourage the children to pursue a future career via STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects.
She said: “Research has shown that if you catch them young in primary school, the children are more likely to get involved in STEM when they’re older.
“Thanks must go to everyone, the staff and kids. The school has worked really hard to pull this event together.”
Dollar Academy students Angus Cooper, Rachael Cartwright and Ellie Montgomery - who were doing work experience at the Advertiser - spoke to some of the children about their experiments.
Jack, in P4/5, said: “It’s been good. Our favourite part was checking the solar outputs and going to Dylan’s house.”
Chloe in P7 said: “The solar powered cars were the best. We also really should have wind turbines because they’re good for the environment.”
Anna in P1 said: “The best bit was racing.”
Jamie in P6 said: “Our topic is the capacity of your lungs. A boy in our class got 3.25 litres.”
Josh in P6, who won the lung capacity test, said: “The whole class has enjoyed it.”
Adam in P2 said: “It’s been really fun and interesting and we learned about gravity.”
