MENSTRIE fete week got off to a great start last weekend with the annual Music in the Gardens event.

The sun shone down on the Nova Scotia Gardens last Saturday as families and friends gathered to enjoy the line-up.

Organised by Menstrie Community Council, there was plenty to keep people entertained with music and activities for all.

The event kicked off the week-long programme of activities that lead up to the village’s gala day on Saturday, June 11.

Stan Paterson, chairman of the community council and a gala co-ordinator, said: “Our fete week started off with Music in the Gardens on Saturday.

“It turned out to be an excellent day all round. Hoochie Coo were headliners, they played a terrific set, and everyone who came along to the event enjoyed it – especially with the sunshine.

“We had the usual bouncy castle for the children, a burger stall and an ice-cream van and, all in all, it was a lovely afternoon.”

Thanks is given to all the volunteers who set up the day and helped to make it a success.

The gala day today (Saturday) kicks off with a parade setting off from Hazel Avenue at noon.

The king and queen for the day will be officially crowned at 12.30pm, while at 1pm the band will play and the fancy dress competition will be judged.

Key attraction this year will be The Quack Commandos, a performing duck group, and there will also be refreshments and stalls.
