CLACKS councillors could decide to continue funding Bandeath Stray Dog Shelter.

A paper will be presented during a full council meeting on Thursday that will give an update on the situation with the Stirling-based facility.

Within it is a recommendation that council “agrees to rescind the notice of intention to withdraw from the Bandeath stray dog kennel partnership, subject to there being no increase to the council's current funding contribution”.

It is also suggested they note that officers will pursue a reduction in the local authority's contribution; they will also write to Police Scotland seeking their commitment to be a partner.

As previously reported in the Advertiser, a campaign to safeguard the facility kick-started last month, in response to suggestions that lack of funding could spell the end for the kennels.

A petition to 'Save Bandeath Stray Dog Shelter' has also garnered nearly 20,000 signatures of support to date.

Run by Stirling Council, the shelter receives financial support from Clackmannanshire Council, Falkirk Council and Police Scotland, and covers the three local authority areas.

However, all partners have given notice of their intention to withdraw from the set-up and have previously said discussions are still ongoing.

More to follow.
