THIS weekend will bring an event for dog lovers within the Wee County.

Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT), a voluntary organisation set up by local residents in 2013, is all set to holds its first ever fun dog show.

This will take place on Saturday, July 16 as part of the celebrations of the annual Clackmannan Gala Day, which takes place at King George V Park from noon-4pm.

There will be five categories Clackmannanshire owners can enter their pooches into: best dog, best bitch, best six legs, best junior handler and waggiest tail.

Entries will open at noon on the day at the CDT tent and will be taken up until 2pm before the show commences; the fee is £1 per dog/category.

Not only will there be the opportunity to show dogs, there will also be a demonstration taking place from Cani-Fit, a fitness training company for dogs and owners.

The organisation runs various events and training throughout the country, providing a great way to get exercise through fun and social interaction, while enjoying the great Scottish outdoors.

Isla Molley, of the CDT's events committee, said: "We are really looking forward to this event. It’s something new and we are hoping as there are a lot of dog owners in the area this would be something of interest and fun to take part in.

"We are delighted to have Cani-Fit come along and provide some demonstrations and information on the day and we have some great prizes from Pets Direct too."

Funds raised from this event will go towards the CDT’s annual Light Up Clackmannan Christmas event in November – people are encouraged to head along and support the local community.

The trust, which organises a number of events, strives to make Clackmannan a better place to live, work and visit.
