AN ALLOA girl has raised more than £700 after a fundraising haircut to help children suffering from cancer.

Rhia Neilson had around 30cm of her locks chopped off last week which will be handed over to the Little Princess Trust.

The hair will then be fashioned into a wig and given to a young child who has lost their own hair due to cancer treatment.

In addition, Rhia and her mum Kerryann Wright set up a Just Giving page to help raise money so they could cover the cost of the wig being made.

And though it costs around £300-350 to make one, the Redwell Primary School pupil finished up with a total of £770.

The seven-year-old went along to Bleu Hair & Beauty in Sauchie where hairdresser Simon Ure gave up his time and services to help her out.

Kerryann told the Advertiser: "We would like to thank everyone who has donated online and directly to Rhia. We never imagined such generosity and are overwhelmed by how much has been raised for such a great cause.

"We are so proud of Rhia for having being so thoughtful and loving and wanting to help another child."

After fundraising for only a few weeks, Rhia was able to raise £720 online, with an additional £50.

Indeed, she is not the only one taking up the campaign as her friend Courtney Innes from Tillicoultry has also chopped off her locks for the Little Princess Trust.

The two youngsters are both part of the Spotlight Youth Theatre, and the two join a list of other Clacks youngsters who have done the same.
