AN ALLOA brewery recently won gold at a national festival.

While Duncan Scott was away securing silverware at Rio, brewers Williams Bros won a gold of their own at the Great British Beer Festival in London.

Cask conditioned ale Williams Black finished first place in the Champion Mild of Britain category at the festival.

This was the second consecutive year the company has taken a gold home from the event and Williams Black was the only Scottish cask ale to win a top accolade at the UK's biggest real ale festival.

Chris Williams said: “We are absolutely delighted for Black to be crowned ‘Champion Mild of Britain’ at the GBBF for the second year in a row.

“Williams Bros started out as a cask ale producer in 1992 so it’s fantastic to still be winning awards for our beer nearly 25 years later.

“It's a testament to our dedicated brewers and staff and all their hard work. It's great to be able to bring back our gold award and see them celebrate the win."

During the festival, where the best of the best were judged by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), more than 900 real ales, ciders, perries and international beers were exhibited under one roof.

The CAMRA's Real Ale Festival is coming back to Alloa too, it is understood it will be held at the end of October.
