THE Central Fife Community Safety Panel is set to sponsor the Rapid Response team at the National F24 Championships.

These will be taking place at Roehampton, near London, next weekend, and the Rapid Response team is a product of an initiative by the Community Police Team based at Cowdenbeath Police Station.

The five youngsters have been encouraged to build their own car and race it on the Scottish scene and at East Fortune, in East Lothian, last month they qualified for the national finals.

At Thursday's meeting the panel members were told of the success of the Rapid Response racers by PC Gary Chrystal, a member of the Community Police Team and they were impressed.

Said panel chairman Lenny Linton: "This has been an amazingly successful venture by the community team and the young racers deserve the utmost praise.

"We feel they deserve our backing at Roehampton."
