A WEE COUNTY woman, who went the extra mile to deliver high standards of care, has been recognised with an award.

Edna Burgess, a hairdresser at Parklands Care Home in Alloa, won the Excellence in Support Services category at the sixth annual Meallmore Awards.

She has been praised by colleagues for brightening the days of many residents with her fantastic stories and inviting, friendly nature.

The heart of the care home, her lively salon even sees guests who don't need a chop, but are dropping in to take part in singing and enjoy chats over an afternoon tea.

Edna said: “I’m very appreciative to have been nominated and to have won. Parklands feels like my extended family, so it is great to know that they are happy with the services being provided.

“I’ve got a gran and granddad myself, so I just want to make sure we treat our residents the same way we would treat our own family.

“I’d like to thank everyone that nominated me – I’m over the moon.”

The annual ceremony, which took place at Perth Race Course a week ago, celebrates the positive impact Meallmore staff make to people's lives on a daily basis in Scotland.

Nominations came from residents, family and friends, visiting professionals and fellow staff members.

Gerry Hennessey, managing director of Meallmore Ltd, said: “I would like to congratulate Edna on her well deserved win and thank her for all her hard work over the last year.

“Our teams are integral to ensuring residents enjoy a good quality of life and receive the best level of care and support. These awards are an extremely important way of recognising their efforts and hard work.

“This year, all team members who have been nominated for an award will receive a certificate, in recognition of their efforts and achievements.

“I’d like to thank all our staff for their continued support and efforts.”
