STAFF at HMP Glenochil recently organised a bake sale for the World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

Operations officers Kerry McMenemy and Samantha McGuiness worked tirelessly to promote the event to the establishment's 400 strong workforce to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Baked goods were donated by members of staff, friends and friends of friends with Sam and Kerry aiming to raise at least £300.

They also approached local businesses and clubs; including Mr Singh's, Bar Aldo's, The Royal Oak Hotel and many many more; for prize donations for a raffle.

At the same time, prisoner Barrie Rainey, an educational student with New College Lanarkshire, was keen to lend a hand and support the event, after seeing promotional posters throughout the establishment.

With the support of the college, the prison's educational provider, and SSP staff the cookery class made 90 empire biscuits and 90 shortbread rounds.

Thirty prisoners attended the bake sale and raised £71.50, which went towards the final total at the end of the day.

Thanks to the generous donations of those attending, the two officers raised a whopping £1,501.20 for the worthy cause altogether.
