A CHOIR of Kenyan children have been touring the UK and are back in Scotland after starting their 2016 journey in Clackmannanshire.

The Singing Children of Africa, a choir formed of youngsters supported by charity Educate the Kids, embarked on their fundraising tour in August, making the Wee County their first stop.

Local families hosted the children for three nights.

They performed outside Domino’s in Alloa, at the town’s The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints and at Menstrie Parish Church.

Visiting various places in Scotland, the 2016 ‘Smile Tour’ then moved down to Yorkshire, London and Somerset, where they were featured on the BBC.

The group is now coming back to the north after raising awareness and close to £3,000.

Money raised will be used to extend the charity’s school and orphanage in Kenya, which provides education, shelter and lunch for hundreds of children from a number of villages in the area of Utange, near Mombasa.

The children, who perform almost every day – sometimes more than once, will be singing to MSPs at the Scottish Parliament on Thursday October 27.

The day before, they will be in Dunfermline’s Carnegie Hall – tickets are £10, concessions £8, family tickets for two adults and three kids are £25.
