THE Ochils Mountain Rescue Team were called out to two separate rescue operations this week.

On Tuesday, October 11, the team received a report of an injured mountain biker at Mine Woods in Bridge of Allan.

They used Sarloc – the Search and Rescue Location app – to find get an "initial fix on the casualty" before locating him and his companions.

The man had sustained a serious knee injury and was stretchered off the hill and into a waiting ambulance.

On Wednesday, the OMRT were called out the Blairlogie at around 12.30pm to help rescue a family of five.

The team used Sarloc again to locate the quintet on steep scree above the town.

They were then put in harnesses and "prussiked" with close assistance from team members.

The Sarloc app allows teams to text people they are trying to rescue and the smartphone links to the software and provides a grid reference.
