FRIENDS from Clackmannanshire came together to arrange a spectacular fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Lauren Gillan and Ben Campbell, who both attended Lornshill Academy, decided to put their heads together and raise funds for the charity.

They were inspired by their own personal circumstances, with Lauren’s dad David recently finishing treatment for leukaemia, while Ben’s mum Irene has lived with cancer for many years.

Lauren said: “We did it for our parents and hoped to make them proud.”

The event at Sauchie Hall on October 15 saw Ben and seven other men brave the pain and get their legs waxed much to the delight of the guests.

Lauren’s family also got in on the action with David waxing Lauren’s boyfriend Aidan. Another man, Michael Tucker, even got his head shaved at the event.

Live music was provided by up and coming local musicians James King and Kieran Fisher, which kept the audience entertained throughout the evening.

A DJ also provided music so everyone could dance the night away.

The event was a huge success, despite only taking a few weeks to organise.

And as the cause was so close to their hearts, Lauren admitted there were some tears shed on the night.

She said: “There were more people than I expected there. I think there was about 180.”

Lauren added: "I had planned to do a skydive this year, but it was so busy I couldn’t do it until next year so I thought I’d do something else to fundraise.”

Lauren still has her heart set on the skydive and will raise more money for the charity by taking the plunge in 2017.

The fundraiser also received great support from local businesses who donated their services and raffle prizes for the event.

Ben and Lauren would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the night go so well.

Through ticket sales, sponsorship and a Justgiving page, the pair are hoping to raise £3000 by the time all the money is collected.
