TWO Dollar teenagers are hoping to embark on a year-long expedition to Nepal to teach English to disadvantaged children.

Lachlan Peterson and Angus Cooper want to reach out to those less fortunate and help give them a better start in life.

But before they can undertake the trip to the Far East, they both need to raise £6200 for the charity Project Trust which will set them up for the full 12 months.

To that end, the two Dollar Academy pupils will be hosting a number of fundraisers over the next few months starting with a pop-up stall at the Dollar Christmas Fayre this weekend.

Other events will include an evening of carol signing, a Burns Supper, a ceilidh and a quiz night.

Lachlan, 17, told the Advertiser: "Me and Angus were selected by Project Trust after a four-day selection process.

"They are an educational charity and will be taking us out of comfort zone from August to August, starting next year.

"We'll head to Nepal, integrate with the community and teach English there."

He added: "It will be a great experience for me. I've travelled a bit and I've been to some poorer countries and I want to make a difference in the lives of the children there.

"It will also help me mature as a person; it will give me a sense of what's out there, instead of just what's in the bubble where I grew up."

Angus, 17, said: "I feel like very lucky to have been in Scotland – a country that has a proper education system and health care, things we take for granted.

"I'd like to go to those countries that don't have the things we do; places like rural Nepal, where there is not much of an education system.

"This trip is something that will develop us both a lot, but hopefully it will also help others too."

Angus added that they were both still in the early planning stages of the fundraising campaign, though a number of events have already been set down.

Between December 19-23, they will both be carol singing, and have plans to host a hot food stall at the Dollar Accies game on December 27.

They will host a Burns Supper on January 27; a ceilidh sometime in February; and a quiz night in March.
