YOUNGSTERS at a community football team in Clacks will be reaching out to those less fortunate this Christmas.

The Alloa Wasps 2009s will be holding a Bring a Toy to Training night next week, encouraging the 20 players they coach to donate a little something each.

The toys brought in will then be taken to the Wee County Children’s Christmas Shop in Alloa and offered up to those in need this festive period.

Since the suggestion was made, there has been a lot of support from the community and anyone who would like to join in is more than welcome.

Allan Webb, one of the team’s coaches, said: “We wanted to do something for a local charity at Christmas and when we seen the Wee County Christmas shop was to re-open this year we thought this was a ideal charity for our football team to help out.

“We have over 20 kids coming to training every week and have asked each of them to donate one of their toys on the night.

“We have had a tremendous amount of support from all our kids’ parents and the community about what our boys are doing.

“It’s a great local cause and we hope to continue this support for many years to come.”

Members of the public, and other community organisations, are asked to pop along to Alloa Athletic’s stadium on Wednesday, December 7, or donate directly to the pop-up Christmas shop on Bank Street in Alloa.

Susan Fraser, one of volunteers helping to run the ‘pay what you can, take what you need’ store.

She said: “We very much appreciate what the club are doing for us – every bit helps.”

“Of course, we rely entirely on people bringing us donations. We simply wouldn’t be here without them.

“Groups and organisations are more than welcome to do something for us; in fact, we just had a big donation from ACE Recycling. It’s also a good way to spread the word far and wide.”
