A FUNDRAISING fun day has been arranged in Clackmannanshire for a teenager being treated for leukaemia.

Declan Rennie is currently at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow undergoing therapy for the condition.

His grandmother Susan McLung and aunt Eleanor Blake arranged the event to get money for the patient and the infirmary where he is being cared for.

Susan said: “He wants half the money to go to the hospital, he chose that.”

The 13-year-old was treated for leukaemia last year but it quickly returned in a more aggressive form.

His first round of chemotherapy has not been successful but he is still undergoing treatment and it is hoped he will go into remission at which point he can have a bone marrow transplant.

Because of this, the fun day will also raise awareness of Anthony Nolan charity and encourage people to sign up for its register of possible donors.

Susan said: “The rules for bone marrow are horrendous. You have to be a certain weight, a certain height, a certain age. I can get tested for Declan because he's my grandson and Eleanor because she's his aunt but we can't go on the register.

“The more folk we can get on the register it will help not just Declan but others who need it.”

Declan, who is from Falkirk but has family in Clackmannanshire, has been staying in hospital but recently got to come home for a short time.

Susan said: “He got a couple of days at home and he got up and put his school uniform on, straight to school. He's so strong.”

The youngster and his family have also missed out on trips they had booked due to his condition. Last year they planned to go abroad and more recently they were going to holiday in Scotland but both had to be cancelled.

It is hoped he will manage to get home for Christmas but this is dependent on Declan being well enough.

The fundraiser will be three hours of non-stop entertainment and games beginning at 1pm at Sauchie Hall on December 18.

Susan said: “The fundraiser is all about having fun and raising money at the same time.”

A child's ticket costs £5 and this includes one accompanying adult as well as a visit to Santa who will have gifts for lucky boys and girls.

An adult ticket is £2.

There will be mascots in attendance including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Spiderman and Mr Tumble, a particular favourite of Declan's wee cousin Jessica, so all age groups will be catered for.

A magician is set to be on hand to amaze people of all ages and party games will be played for prizes.

Anyone wanting to attend should contact Eleanor on her Facebook Page or call 07870406676 to arrange ticket collection or delivery.
