CARING Sauchie youngster Lily Steele is hoping to help a sick child by donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

The eight-year-old has spent the last year growing her locks so she have it chopped off and turned into a wig.

She and her family have also been fundraising for the charity as well – having broke their first target in a matter of hours.

The Little Princess Trust provides real-hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.

And proud mum Tracie says Lily has been desperate to help, ever since she first asked about it a year ago.

She told the Advertiser: "This is something we've been doing for a while now and every month or so she's been asking me if it's long enough yet.

"It wasn't long enough at the time and I wanted to make sure she had a good length left when she did have it cut.

"She asked me again a few months ago and I told her let's just get through Christmas, and then she asked again and I said we'll do it in the new year.

"So, she's very persistent. That's for sure. I just want her to know that she is my wee hero."

Tracie also said she was blown away with the response she and Lily received when she posted a link to the crowdfunding page.

In no time at all, her target was reached and breached thanks to floods of support from friends and family.

Now she is hoping to raise just a little bit more so that not only can the Craigbank pupil provide the hair for the wig, but that they can cover the £350 cost to make it as well.

Tracie added: "The support has been absolutely amazing, especially from my family. They keep telling her that it's such a nice thing she's doing and that she's a special girl.

"On the Just Giving page we set a £150 target but we hit that in about seven hours.

"We're on about £250 in total now, so we're nearly able to cover the cost of the wig as well.

"She'll be looking to get about 13 inches taken off this Sunday, so the Little Princess Trust will be able to make a nice long wig out of that."
