PUPILS from the Wee County's academies were recently busting a move at a school contest.

The third annual Clackmannanshire Secondary Schools Dance Competition was held at Alva Academy with a total of 26 acts taking part.

More than 350 spectators watched as the entrants danced it off for accolades in three categories.

The routines lasted a maximum of two minutes and were choreographed by the youngsters themselves.

They put in months of preparation and practice ahead of the event to put high standard performances on the floor.

Hosting the evening were Alva Academy head boy Aidan Briggs and deputy head girl Jessica Stitt.

The judges – Heather Shrimpton of Alloa Ballet Company, Vanessa Paynton of the Macrobert Arts Centre and Olga Dubaniowska from the Stirling University Dance Club – had a hard time choosing the top two acts in each category.

Earning first place in the Junior Small Category was Alva duo 'Worth It' with a shared second place going to groups 'Shellshock' from Alva and 'Good Times' from Alloa Academy.

In Junior Large competition, first place went to 'S1 Lunchtime' from Alva with Lornshill Academy group 'Fight for Pride' taking second.

The Senior Category saw another win for Alva with group 'Titanic' taking the trophy, Alloa Academy's 'Welcome to the Circus' came second.
