A KIND-HEARTED youngster spent a year growing out her hair so she could have it cut off and turned into a wig for a sick child.

Lily Steele has donated 15 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, after hearing about the idea from a classmate.

The eight-year-old then became determined to help and, after months and months of waiting, finally took the plunge last Sunday.

What's more is that she and her mum Tracie also set up a crowd funding page and hoped they would be able to hand over enough to cover the £350 cost of making the wig.

However, with extra donations coming in, the two were able to raise £500 for the charity.

Tracie said: "The support has been amazing and the fact people are still donating is really great. We raised more than I was expecting.

"We're definitely pleased – Lily loves her new hair too."

Last week, the Advertiser reported that Lily's Just Giving page attracted strong support from all over the county.

Tracie first set the target at £150, but was amazed to find it had been smashed in just seven hours.

In fact, the page had been set up for less than two weeks when the total reached the £500 mark.

The Little Princess Trust provides real-hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.
