A CHARITY golf tournament has been arranged to help provide support to a Clacks youngster in need.

Lachlan Morris suffers from sever cerebral palsy and needs specially-adapted equipment to get around, communicate or simply enjoy his childhood.

However, the nature of his condition means that much of the items are bespoke and very expensive.

In 2014, his family set up a GoFundMe page to ask members of the community to help raise the money needed to give the nine-year-old a better quality of life.

Many individuals and groups have since taken up the cause by hosting fundraisers in his honour.

Lachlan's dad Paul said: “Since we started the fundraising effort last year many friends have rallied round brilliantly.

“We are fundraising for equipment to help Lachlan have a more normal everyday life. These additional items are almost always extremely expensive but can help to transform his life experiences.

“He has wheelchairs for indoors and out, for example, but we don’t have an armchair for him to sit in. They exist, but are hugely expensive.

"We have successfully fundraised for an off-road wheelchair, to let Lachlan enjoy the hills and the beach as part of our efforts.

“We are around halfway towards our £20,000 target, to help us with equipment needs now and in the near future. We have been overwhelmed by this fantastic effort by friends, family and colleagues across the Wee County, Scotland and beyond.

“With everyone’s help and support, we have already bought the off-road buggy and will look to other items this year, as we make the house more suitable for Lachlan’s needs."

Paul hopes to be able to get his son an armchair with appropriate supports so he can watch TV more comfortably, as well as a trike, and an all-terrain buggy.

The Alloa youngster also communicates using a Tobii Eyegaze, and the family are hoping to get him a back up device should his other break down, leaving him unable to speak.

Last summer, Gillian Smith, a friend of the the family, took a group of Wee County youngsters to the SECC to take part in a colour run for Lachlan, raising hundreds in the process.

Last month, another friend held a homebrewing night for the fund, while Tesco have been holding events all through 2016.

There has also been "numerous cheques" from Masonic institutions – individual Lodges and Orders, such as Ye Olde Corporation of Squaremen.

And the kindness from friends and family is set to continue this year, with a charity four-ball event at Schawpark Golf Course on April 24.

Around 40 people are expected to take part in the golf day, at a cost of £45 a head. There will also be raffles and events afterwards.

The event, arranged by Paul's friend Adrian Anderson, is now looking for sponsors to get involved to help boost the final total raise for Lachlan.

Business and organisers looking to support the event in April, can get in touch with organisers at Golf4lachlan@gmail.com
