THE Clackmannanshire Cancer Support Group is among the grassroots community groups to receive a share of a £40,000 Coalfields Community Investment Programme.

With a major donation of £5,000, from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, the group have advertised for a sessional worker to help aid their activities and fundraising initiatives.

Bob Young, Scottish Trustee of the CRT, said: "Our Coalfields Community Investment Programme recognises the fact that local organisations very often struggle to access modest funding to meet their needs.

"In most cases the impact of these awards far outweighs the level of funding, and we are delighted to be able to support grassroots organisations in this way."

The CRT's Coalfields Community Investment Programme gives awards of between £500 and £5,000 to support the activities of small local groups that tackle some of the key challenges that still remain in mining communities.
