A WEE COUNTY man is behind bars this week after appearing in court charged with dealing heroin.

James Murray, 38, was arrested by police while driving through Fife with his co-accused Michelle Cord last Thursday.

A police search was carried out, with the vehicle stopped at the junction of the A92 near Cowdenbeath.

Officers say they recovered heroin with a potential value of £3,000, with the duo then arrested and charged.

Murray and Cord both appeared in private at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Friday and made no plea or declaration.

Cord, 42, was committed for further examination and granted bail, while Murray was also committed but remanded in custody by the sheriff.

He will re-appear in court in the near future.

Speaking after their arrest, Detective Inspector Paul Dick, of the divisional pro-active unit, said: “This is a significant seizure of heroin that was destined for the streets of Fife and impacting on our local communities.

“This recovery demonstrates Police Scotland’s commitment to tackling serious and organised crime and to actively pursuing those involved in the supply of controlled drugs.”

Anyone with any information about drug dealing or any type of organised crime is urged to report it by calling 101 or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
