STAFF at Sauchie's Party People are hoping to celebrate their sixth anniversary by sealing a top industry award later this month.

The popular event planning company has been shortlisted for event decorators of the year at the 2017 Scottish Wedding Awards.

Included in their category are a number of long-running businesses in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, with the ceremony set down for Monday, February 27 at the Crowne Plaza.

Party People was started in 2011 and only a few months ago moved to their current premises at Unit D, Schawpark.

Owner John Dornan, from Alloa, says he is proud of his staff and feels the nomination is due recognition for their success.

He said: "We had absolutely no idea about this – we got a random call one day out of the blue; it was a massive shock.

"I never set up the company to win awards. It was always about trying to make it the best company it could be.

"Brides and grooms have put us forward and after the public vote we made the shortlist. It's down to the judges now."

John added: "We were previously nominated for a Clackmannanshire Business Award last year.

"But this one with the Scottish Wedding Awards is such a big deal for us because not only is it an industry award, it's national.

"And we're in there with some really big names, so if we were to beat them then that really would be saying something."

Though it's not just weddings the company are known for, with a growing number of families coming to them as part of funeral arrangements.

Birthdays are also popular as Party People have on their staff a certified balloon artist, while their flower studio can cater for a variety of events.

John said: "I'm really proud of the team we have here; we're all hard workers and the company has come a long way in the last few years.

"I've always had a determination to get the job done to a really high standard and the people we have been able to recruit all understand that.

"There is no margin for error in this business because we are dealing with people's wedding days and other big events."

He added: "We have done 200 events or so over the last year – that's absolutely phenomenal.

"When I first started I think I done one job in the firs month. I must have been crazy to keep it going, but it's worked out well.

"We have our sixth anniversary on March 3 and it would be the icing on the cake if we could celebrate it with the award.

"We're going to be in party mode anyway and we'll be having some kind of event at the shop.

"There will be some special offers on as well, but even those not planning an event are invited to pop in, see what we are about and maybe have a wee glass of fizz."
