A DYNAMIC health and wellbeing programme came to P6 pupils Menstrie Primary School last week, following a successful session in Coalsnaughton.

Children from Mr Furzer and Mrs Walkin's classes had been looking forwards to the 'Max in the Middle' scheme, which entailed five days of learning and fun with healthy eating, practical life skills as well as drama and dance.

Teacher Peter Furzer said: “It is also about how they deal with situations they could be in when they are growing up.”

The activities are delivered by drama group INTER-ACT through NHS Forth Valley and includes 'Tasty Tuesday', when youngsters learn about cooking different foods.

Their experiences are later translated into dance and drama, with a performance in front of parents – who can also taste the foods the children made. There were oatcakes with cheese, salmon boats and fruity tumble-crumbles for all to enjoy.

Mr Furzer added: “They loved it. I mean, they look forward to it every year, P6 is when we do it at Menstrie and the other children, 'the fives', know that 'the sixes' are doing it and then they are looking forward to it for next year.

“The kids really-really enjoyed it, they worked hard and the show at the end was just really good.”

On Friday, the programme culminated in a show for parents and carers with around 40 people turning up for the event.

The teacher said: “We got good feedback at the end. It's always nice to hear them when they are coming out to say how well they did.

“We are looking forward to doing it again next year with P6.”

He also added that the two ladies from INTER-ACT were “fantastic” at delivering the week-long programme of activities.
