AN enjoyment of dancing brought one Clackmannanshire couple together more than 60 years ago.

It was while tapping their toes at the Cochrane Hall in Alva that Archie and Isabel Johnstone (nee Drylie) met each other.

Now over six decades later – and still with a love of the dance floor – they have just celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

The lucky pair were flooded with 60 cards full of congratulations, including one from HM The Queen, and asked for donations to RNLI in lieu of gifts.

They also received a visit from the Wee County's depute provost Jim Stalker and vice lord lieutenant Jean Hunter.

As well as a lovely meal at The Grouse & Claret, they had a gathering at Gean House complete with around 66 guests and have thoroughly enjoyed marking the milestone.

Isabel said: "It was fantastic – couldn't have been better – it really was. It was a great celebration."

Archie, 86, was born in Alva and Isabel, 82, hailed from the Mid-Lothian before she arrived in Sauchie.

They tied the knot on February, 9, 1957 at Sauchie UF Church before heading to Alva masonic hall for their reception.

Early on in their married life they spent time living in Greenfield Street, Marshill and Abbeycraig Road.

They then went on to realise one of their early dreams – building their very own house together.

They did so in Coalsnaughton and it has been their home for nearly 43 years.

The couple, who enjoy taking the odd cruise, have a son and daughter, two grandchildren, one grandson and another grandchild on the way.

Archie was a joiner to trade, while Isabel was a typist with the coal board, alongside her many volunteering duties.

Over 35 years, she gave her time to Strathcarron Hospice and also did machine knitting for the RSPB.

As for the secret to a happy marriage, Archie joked: "The husband doing what he is told."

But the true key to their longevity has been sharing everything, being together, communication and importantly "give and take".

The couple are still totting up the amount raised for the lifeboat charity through family and friends.

Isabel said: "We'd like to say thanks for all the beautiful cards and presents received and the donations for the RNLI."
