AROUND 100 people took to the Cochrane Hall for a night of dancing at the weekend.

There was plenty of fun on Saturday night during the event from The Alloa Alpha Community Association Dance Club.

There was old time and modern dancing to the music of Raymond Carse, well-known as a member of the Tartan Lads duo.

The club was initially founded in the 1970s and was a member of the main Alloa Alpha Communities Association.

This was affiliated with the national Association of Alpha Communities – a non-discretionary body set out to promote the well-being of community residents.

It has carried on long after the cessation of the Alloa branch in 1989 and membership is open to all adults, irrespective of where they live.

Dances are held monthly in the hall – usually on the third Saturday – between September and April, with some people travelling 25-30 miles for the events.

Secretary Edna Crawford said: "The dance programme is based on 'round the room' dances including a few sequence, well-known modern ballroom and old time, and of course the obligatory slosh and alley cat.

"Music is provided to the sound of accordion band music and for the last seven years has been provided by the renowned accordionist Raymond Carse, well known as a member of the Tartan Lads duo.

"The aim of the club of the club is to supply a platform for people to come together in a friendly environment to enjoy an evening of dancing, having a blether with friends or just listening to the music. Within central Scotland there is a fraternity of social dancers who travel around around different venues meeting up with one another and enjoying the company. Our dance is one of these venues."

The group issues annual schedules and dancing is from 7.30-11pm; visitors are made welcome.

There is an interval to serve tea, biscuits and to draw a raffle.

The end of season event takes place in April – a members and guests annual dinner dance which includes a three course meal.
