A DRIVER was hunted down by the police after giving false information to a motorist he crashed in to.

Last Wednesday at Alloa's Justice of the Peace Court, Kevin Harrison pleaded guilty by letter to colliding with another car outside the town's B&M store on December 4 last year.

Fiscal depute Matthew Kerr told the court that a witness was reversing out of a parking bay when she felt a thud to the rear of her car when it was stationary.

As she got out of her motor, the accused exited the vehicle that had accidentally knocked into hers.

Mr Kerr claimed that Harrison apologised to the witness and said something along the lines of "I didn't see you".

Due to the scrapes and indentation of the witness' rear bumper, she asked for the accused's details for insurance purposes. At this point Harrison falsely stated that his name was Kevin Stewart and that he lived in Sauchie.

When the witness checked the details later, she found out that she'd been duped. Fortunately, the she took down Harrison's registration number and reported the incident to the police.

Officers traced the accused to his home address where they discovered his own damaged vehicle. Harrison, of Alloa's Smithfield Meadows, thereafter admitted he was the driver of the car.

Justice Mandy Shand fined the 32-year-old £350 and endorsed his licence with five penalty points.
