GRITTERS are on stand-by ahead of expected wintry weather tomorrow.

The Met Office has issued yellow and amber warnings of snow for Thursday, February 23, for Clackmannanshire, the central belt and across the UK.

Storm Doris is expected to bring snow over higher ground and may also fall in low-lying areas with up to 6cm accumulating.

Clacks commuters to Falkirk could see heavy snow; while there is some uncertainty over the track of the storm, the chief forecaster is now more confident disruptions could affect the area.

With Alloa Road closed between Tullibody and the town, as well as between Causewayhead and Manor Powis, local motorists may see even more disruption during rush hour.

Trunk road maintenance firm BEAR Scotland says pre-winter treatments will be completed in advance in the north east and north west, with teams ready to respond to conditions as they develop.

A spokesperson added: “We have over 180 dedicated, trained and experienced employees ready to deal with winter across the trunk roads that we maintain across the north east and north west of Scotland.

“Our winter control room monitors road conditions on a 24/7 basis meaning we can act quickly to changing winter weather conditions.

“Over the next 24 hours, our winter spreaders will be patrolling our routes and carrying out treatments as necessary.

“As ever, we ask members of the public to ensure their vehicle is well maintained, that they pay close attention to local and national media and information to help plan journeys during inclement weather and that they carry equipment to help themselves should conditions deteriorate.”
