LABOUR candidate Craig Miller has been endorsed by former PM Gordon Brown.

The Clackmannanshire West hopeful in the upcoming local government elections was honoured to receive support at the weekend, when Mr Brown also laid out his masterplan for a post-Brexit Scotland in the UK.

The political heavyweight has called for Holyrood to be handed a series of new powers after the British exit from the EU and include the ability to set VAT rates, regulate the environment, employment and energy, as well as sign international treaties.

Craig said: “It is a real honour to receive the support of Gordon Brown.

“Gordon was part of a government that delivered a Scottish Parliament, lifted over one million pensioners and 600,000 children out of poverty, delivered the highest levels of employment this country has seen and ensured long term youth unemployment was cut by 75 per cent.

“The election on May 4 is about much more than party politics or another independence debate, it is about who will deliver for their communities and who will be the strongest voices at Clackmannanshire Council representing the views and values of our areas and I am pleased that a former prime minister believes that I am able to be that strong voice to constituents.”
