THE HUNT is on for the UK’s best pubs with organisers calling on customers to nominate their favourite boozers.

With the UK’s departure from the European Union looming large, leading pub trade magazine The Morning Advertiser said it wanted to honour the pubs that would be integral in pulling communities together during the most divisive political change in a generation.

Ed Bedington, the magazine’s editor, said: "There’s never been a more important time to pull together as one community, and pubs lie at the heart of that.

“The referendum to leave the European Union divided opinion more than any vote in living memory, so we are calling on all pub goers to help us recognise those pubs that are doing the best job of bringing us all together by nominating their favourite local for the title of Great British Pub of the Year.”

The annual awards recognise the diversity and excellence that exist in the modern pub world, from the best food operations to the best family-focused outlets, culminating in one pub being crowned the champion of champions.

Last year The Bull in Ditchling, East Sussex, was crowned the best in Britain after strong local support was backed up by a rigorous judging process as the much-loved freehouse claimed the title for the first time.

Ed added: "We want to celebrate all that makes the British pub great and brings the local communities together, so if you think you’ve got the nation’s best local, with the greatest landlord offering the finest drinks and entertainment, then we really want to hear from you.”

Punters are urged to nominate their favourite pub by tweeting its name to the team at the Morning Advertiser using hashtag #pubawards @morningad, visiting the GBPA Facebook page or emailing the name to gbpa@wrbm.com
