CLACKMANNANSHIRE Greens were on Alloa High Street last Saturday encouraging people to respond to the Scottish Governments fracking consultation.

The candidates for the upcoming local government election were joined by Mark Ruskell, Mid Scotland and Fife MSP and environment spokesperson for the Scottish Greens.

Bryan Quinn, standing for the party in the Clackmannanshire South ward, said: "It is important that everyone who is worried about fracking, and does not want it in Clacks, responds to the government's consultation to let them know that.

"Fracking does not offer a long-term solution to our energy needs, does not create long-term jobs, and brings with it the potential for serious long-term problems."

Mr Ruskell added: "To protect Clackmannanshire communities from fracking we need a strong group of Green councillors.

"Clacks voters have the chance to make history and elect the first ever Greens [representative] to the council next week.

"After decades of infighting and turmoil at Clacks Council, it's time for fresh faces and a fresh start."

The consultation covers all currently proposed unconventional techniques which could be developed in the country, such as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, and coal bed methane extraction.

It will run until May 31 and can be viewed via consult.scotland.gov.uk
