CLACKS councillor George Matchett is on the road recovery after suffering a suspected heart attack at a hustings last night.
The Labour candidate had just given a passionate opening speech before collapsing suddenly at the event in the civic centre.
Fellow candidates on the panel quickly rushed to his aid before an ambulance was called.
A doctor, who was a member of the audience, began administering CPR as the hall was cleared.
Other members of the public also tried to help with one man rushing to Lornshill Academy - thought to be the nearest location of a public-use defibrillator.
Paramedics then arrived at the scene and Cllr Matchett was rushed to Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
However, within hours his condition was much-improved.
Fellow Labour candidate Craig Miller said: "I am pleased to report that Cllr George Matchett has been reviewed by Doctors and is awake, alert and talking.
"He has asked me to convey his thanks for everyone's concern and messages and is looking forward to making a speedy recovery."
