AN Alloa man has been recognised as an outstanding home care recipient.

David Breingan, 95, was among the winners in the Client Achievement category at the Scottish Care Awards 2017, an accolade which celebrates the lives of individuals and their continued achievements whilst being supported at home.

He said: "I am very surprised but thrilled and honoured to be chosen as a winner in these prestigious awards."

David was given his award at a prestigious evening ceremony celebrating the best of the independent care at home and housing support sector in Scotland.

The winners were announced on Friday, May 12 during the event at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow, which was hosted by Michelle McManus, with over 400 people attending.

Susan McCormack, service manager at Mears Care, Clackmannanshire, who made the nomination, said: "David is an absolute gentleman and an inspiration to us all.

"Despite encountering health problems recently, he has made a unique contribution to our service, participating in workshops and training to help our staff understand more about what it is like to be in receipt of care and support."

The awards have been hailed a huge success in recognising individuals, teams and companies, with more entries than ever flooding in each year from employers and employees nominating their peers and colleagues.

The care awards followed a full day conference with speakers including the Cabinet Secretary for Health & Wellbeing, Shona Robison.
