PEOPLE will have the chance to help put the final touches onto a new piece of public art for Alloa at the weekend.

Artists James Gordon and Susheila Jamison have been working on a stone sculpture which will be placed at the new housing development at Primrose Place next to the Speirs Centre.

This weekend, the pair will be holding workshops for anyone who is interested in trying their hands at stone carving and people will also have the chance to contribute to the practical work of shaping the final details.

Called 'Source', the new piece of art is themed around the fresh water supplies of the area that were essential for the town's industrial past.

The piece was commissioned by Kingdom Housing Association, which is taking the development forward.

Before starting the work, the two artists were out and about in town, speaking to local people with James saying that it was interesting to hear residents' views on what art should be.

He added: “A lot of people felt that Alloa's natural side, the beautiful setting with the hills and the water, was missed. But there is also the industrial connection with the freshwater, brewing, glassmaking.”

The event will take place on both Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 4pm – the stone is situated by the car park in the new residential block adjacent to the Speirs Centre.
