THERE were smiles on children's faces when the summer fun kicked-off in Alloa town centre last week with Gary Dunn's antics on the High Street.

In front of a busy crowd, the entertainer and magician put two free shows on last Thursday, July 6, as part of Alloa Town Centre Business Improvement District's (BID) programme of family events.

There were fun competitions with prizes for the youngsters, plenty of laughter from both adults and kids, with a magic show in the afternoon.

The BID also put a toy sale on while Mr Puffin was delighting children with his balloon models.

Those passing by also had the chance to enjoy some Italian ice cream and little bookbugs had the opportunity to learn more about Clackmannanshire Council's Summer Reading Challenge and sign up.

Organising the event was the BID's Lorraine Douglas and her team, she said the programme of events, which will run each week until August 17, got off to a “fabulous start”.

Despite worries about the rain in the morning, it gradually got warmer with the sun coming out to show its face for a few minutes here-and-there.

She said it was brilliant to see so many parents and youngsters coming along – things are just getting started as there is still another six weeks of fun on the way.

Next Thursday, July 13, will see Animal Man Mini Zoo in the performance area at the top of the High Street between 11.30am and 2.30pm – children will have the chance to learn about birds, reptiles and much more.
