CLACKMANNAN Gala Day has been hailed a success despite the poor weather which failed to dampen spirits of a strong crowd.

The parade started at the Co-op and finished at Alexander Park, where crowds were met with hours of fun and interactive events and festivities.

The afternoon of entertainment started with the crowning of gala queen Keeley, who wore her tiara and lovely white dress with pride.

Crowds of young and old then marvelled at the talents of dance troupe Just Dance before they were treated to the delightful sounds of the Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band.

The gala then put on a Bonny Baby contest with two different categories. The baby section was won by Corey before Jorgie claimed the prize for the gala’s bonniest toddler.

There was plenty more entertainment on offer with something to suit everyone’s tastes and needs.

There was a dance show from the Spotlight Youth Theatre who provided a fantastic array of moves to delight the audience.

Also in attendance, and proving popular, was a mini petting zoo from Cool Creatures which provided a large selection of birds, including the falcon Kenny the Kestrel.

The mini zoo gave locals the unique opportunity to get pictures with exotic birds of prey.

The Clackmannan Development Trust put on a dog show that included winners for several different categories.

After this year’s success, the six-strong committee is having a short break before they start thinking of next year’s event – which will begin with an appeal for volunteers.

A spokeswoman for the Clackmannan Gala Committee said: “This year’s gala was a great success and the turnout was great, especially since the weather was not great.

“We didn’t bother with a theme this year because we had to change venues because of roadworks but we’re hoping to make next year’s day even better than this one.

“Quite soon, we’re going to be making an appeal for some more volunteers. We need more people if we are to make it better every year because it’s such hard work for just six people.”
