ARTISTS at Alloa's Marcelle House are getting in the holiday spirit with a Christmas exhibition this weekend.

A display of various works from resident painters and sculptors as well as guests will be waiting for those heading along on Saturday, November 25.

With the title Yuletide – historical Germanic for winter festivities – the event will start at 11am and there will be plenty to keep visitors entertained with arts and crafts, milled wine, bubbly and surprises until 5pm.

Everything will be on sale and a range of items for potential Christmas gifts will be available including cards from Daphne Hamilton, also known as derenz, and old photos from Alloa's past printed by photographer John Howie.

All the works will be themed around winter and Christmas with works from Mike Marriot, Suzanne Williams and chief organiser Karen Strang.

Two of the painter and tutor's students – Ian Campbell and Fiona MacDonald – will also be hanging works up for the first time.

A range of arts and crafts materials will also be on sale and entry is free to the event. Unfortunately, and outwith the control of the resident artists, there is no disabled access to the Front Room Arts Salon, which will provide the venue for the occasion.

Those heading along on the opening day will have the chance to speak to the artists themselves, some of whom are planning to open their studios as well to provide a behind-the-scenes look and chat to those interested.

This weekend's exhibition comes after two recent displays at the Marcelle House annex. 'Seasons of the Witch' was just retired from the walls earlier this week to make space for the upcoming show.

It came just before Halloween with four artists Faracy Moon Grouse, Karen Strang, Julia Jeffrey and Marta Adamowicz displaying their works from a dark past of superstition and witch hunts.

Before that, those interested in contemporary local art had the chance to take in a display of landscapes from around the Wee County and beyond.
