A 30-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for 13 months after being caught driving while banned for the seventh time.

Steven Rough had only recently been given early release from jail when police spotted him behind the wheel in Kincardine at the weekend.

Rough appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and admitted that on Sunday in High Street and Toll Road, Kincardine, he drove a car while disqualified and without insurance.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said police officers had stopped Rough at around 7.40pm and checks quickly revealed he was a banned driver until 2027.

“He told police the vehicle belonged to his partner and he was going to a shop to buy food,” she added.

Defence solicitor Sarah Meehan said: “He accepts this is not a good explanation. This is his seventh conviction for driving while disqualified.”

Rough, 30, of Earl Street, Glasgow, had only been released from jail on licence on November 17.

Sheriff Chris Shead sent Rough back to jail to serve three months of his previous term and added another 10 months for his latest offence. He was also banned from driving for 18 years.
