WEE County Wellness is ending the year on a high, after raising £800 for Strathcarron Hospice.

The money was collected through a Christmas Fayre last Tuesday along with the very first Burlesque Chair Dance Show last month.

The sum also helped the Alloa-based gym reach a massive milestone of more than £20,000 raised for good causes during the last four years.

Owner Celia Peat said: "I’m super proud of the people in the Wee County and everyone who comes along to Wee County Wellness for all that they do to help us with every event and to reach our £20,000 total – I'm looking forward to see what we can get up to next.

"As a local business, all of our fundraising has been for local causes or local people to aid their cause, such as Alzheimer's Scotland, Scottish Autism, Help for Heroes, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and even the Grenfell Tower victims with a raffle, and we try and do a big event each year and some smaller ones.

"In between, after my own bereavement this year, it's been a struggle for me to get back to normal but I wanted to end the year on a high note with the burlesque show and Christmas Fayre to return my thanks to Strathcarron."

The wellness centre has been busy in the community over the last few years, with more than £4,000 netted for Mackenzie Furniss in 2014 and in excess of £4,000 raised for Freya-Rose Hunter in 2015.

In September, £600 was raised for Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow through a two-hour Clubbercise class for Clacks couple Jamie Bruce and Ashley Gordon, in memory of their son, Leo.

And the burlesque chair dance show in Clackmannan Town Hall, also organised by Celia, was the first of its kind.

Dancers travelled in from the likes of Glasgow, Fife, Denny and Doncaster to take part in the sell-out event.

Celia, who offers the form of exercise in her Alloa venue, also held a festive fayre last week complete with stalls, nibbles, prosecco and bargains.

And she is pleased with the proceeds that will go to Strathcarron, which provides specialist palliative care and supports those with illnesses that cannot be cured.

She said: "It feels great as Strathcarron is such a worthy cause.

"We had the support of the hospice at home team early this year looking after my gran and the job they do is amazing.

"Every penny raised goes straight to them to continue the job they do and that makes it worthwhile.

"Our burlesque show will be an annual event and will link to a local charity each year."
