POLICE are advising people in the Wee County and beyond to head home before 3pm today due to severe weather.

Fresh advice comes after the Met Office is warning the worst of today's weather is likely to start this afternoon.

Employers are also being asked to consider sending staff home early if possible.

There is no certainty where more snow will fall within the central belt and in Scotland, but nearby Falkirk is amongst the areas that could see significant disruption as a result.

And with snow already building up in Clacks from this morning, there has already been disruptions in the Wee County.

For instance, the Advertiser understands no traffic is coming in or out of Coalsnaughton, while the local authority confirmed schools are closing early today.

Superintendent Louise Blakelock, of Police Scotland's Road Policing, said: “As we progress into this afternoon and evening, I would like to remind the public of the ongoing risk of disruption due to the forecast.

“If you travel on the road network in the warning area, you will be disrupted and you will face significant delays.

“With that in mind I would urge the public to think and plan ahead for their return journey home this afternoon.

“If you are able to, please make your homeward journey earlier.

“If you are an employer, please think carefully about allowing your staff to return home early if possible.

“I would like to make it clear that there is a high risk of disruption for road journeys and with that comes a high likelihood of the conditions being very poor, therefore I would ask people whether their journey is really necessary?

“Please ensure you are checking the most up to date information from Traffic Scotland and the Met Office.”

UPDATE: First buses 60, 62/63 were not running for a period of time due to road conditions, but services could now be seen running through Alloa again.

If you must travel with the motor, make sure you have enough fuel, water, food and warm blankets; charge the mobile phone and tune into local radio stations for updates.
