EMERGENCY services were at the scene of a fire which has broken out in a tenament block in Stirling last Friday, February 16. 

A number of crews were dispatched to Murray Place just after 6pm after the property above King’s Barber Shop went ablaze. 

Roads nearby were closed off by police as the incident commander with the fire and rescue service asked for a quarantine. 

Onlookers were pushed back as firefighters were seen entering the building.

Smoke could be seen billowing out above the city skyline as additional crews arrived to support the operation. 

More than 30 firefighters were mobilised in a total of seven appliances.

They worked throughout the night to extinguish the fire and prevent it spread to neighbouring buildings.

The Scottish and Fire Rescue Service confirmed there were no casualties with crews in attendance until 10.40am the next day.

Roddie Keith, the service's senior officer for Stirling and Clackmannanshire, said:

"The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded quickly and effectively to this incident.

“Our priorities were protecting the community from harm and preventing further damage to property in this historic area of the city.

“On arrival the fire was already well developed - but quick and decisive action ensured that the fire was contained to one area and extinguished.

“I am proud of all our firefighters and wish to thank our partners for their assistance in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion."
