A PARALYMPIAN has thrown her weight behind a charity which offers people with disabilities extra support.

Wilma Lawrie visited Clackmannanshire to complete one of her 50 Walks and Witter in aid of the Brittle Bone Society (BBS).

She was backed up by local company Albion Mobility who have been offering back up and support since she commenced her fundraising event, when she took to West End Park in Alloa last week.

With support from Albion company director Barbara McCallum and technical engineer Gavin Preston, Wilma took the opportunity to try out a wheelchair handcycle which may come in handy for some of her upcoming walks.

Wilma said: “Thanks to Albion Mobility Limited for their ongoing support, advice, and encouragement.

“These 50 walks have encouraged me to get out and enjoy the increased freedom and independence the Ti Lite wheelchair, SmartDrive and FreeWheel are giving me, supplied by Albion Mobility and financed by the Brittle Bones Society.”

Wilma is raising money for the Dundee-based charity which works to further research, raise awareness, and support people living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta and so much more.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic bone disorder characterised by fragile bones that break easily – and is known as brittle bone disease.

A person is born with this disorder and is affected throughout the entire course of their lifetime.

OI is a rare condition and it is estimated that the number of people born with the condition is approximately one in every 15,000, equating to around 5000 individuals in the UK living with OI.
