A WEE COUNTY darts team are set to strip off in the name of charity as they aim to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

James Anderson and The Old Brewery team have organised a naked calendar in conjunction with counterparts in Darlington in a bid to raise money for worth cause.

The idea came about when James was brainstorming ideas having already arranged a darts day for the end of July, then he asked his team who threw their support behind the crazy idea.

James told the Advertiser: “I organised the charity darts day and spoke to the woman who controls the darts side of Prostate Cancer UK. I said to one of the boys who lived up here then moved down south and we agreed that I’d get six guys and he’d get six as well.

“All the boys were willing to do it. It was one of those ideas which snowballs and then suddenly you can’t get out it.”

Despite the thought of baring all, James insists that they are excited by the prospect.

He continued: “We were talking about it and we’re all looking forward to it.

"The pub where we play, The Old Brewery, have said that we can do the photoshoot in there after hours, so after a semi-final we’ve got coming up, we’ll take the pictures.”

“If we win, we’ll be buzzing and if we lose, it’ll cheer us up.”

James will be joined by team mates Forbes Raeburn, Derek Cadger, Barry Douglas, Stuart Huggins and captain Mark Davidson for the big reveal.

Adding to the mayhem of stripping off, James is even selling off parts of his left leg for tattoos.

Anyone who buys a section can choose the ink – a level of commitment which has helped earn James the status of an official fundraiser for Prostate Cancer UK.

It’s all part of a drive to raise as much as possible with no target set by James and his team other than to make as much as they can.

The Old Brewery will also play host to the darts day on July 29, and the team are hoping for a full pub on the day.

The event has already amassed a number of highly sought-after collectibles to be auctioned and raffled off, including a signed Rangers photo, a four-person tour of Celtic Park and two tickets to a Hamilton Academical match.

In the auction will be a signed Andy Fordham photo, a shirt which has been signed by some of darts’ biggest names and a signed Michael van Gerwen t-shirt – an item James says is too valuable to be raffled.

Anyone looking to help out can head along to The Old Brewery on July 29 where there will be darts all day, raffles, auctions and food laid on.
