MASTER builders will descend on Alloa this summer for a three-week LEGO exhibition in the town.

Warren Elsmore, an artist who creates big builds with the bricks, will be constructing the pieces for the event at the Liberal Club on Mar Street.

The venue has been taken over by Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface (CTSi) and the brick-tastic occasion will be the centrepiece of a range of events there.

It follows on from last year’s successful display of the Great Tapestry of Scotland in the Speirs Centre and links in with the Year of Young People.

Anthea Coulter, CTSi business manager, said: “After the success of the tapestry exhibition last year, especially in encouraging new volunteers, we wanted to do the same again this year with a focus on young people.

“And LEGO is loved by young and old so it felt like the ideal event to bring to Clacks.

“Our dilemma this year was sadly the exhibition space in the Speirs Centre now houses the council archives so we needed to find another venue.

“The only one that was available in a central position for a period of time was the Liberal Club, so we are delighted to be hosting the exhibition right in the heart of the town which we hope will benefit the local business community also.”

The Liberal Club is an arts and crafts style building, which boasts wood panelled rooms and stained glass windows depicting local scenes.

CTSi staff will have some considerable space to play with on site and aim to put on a range of events during the warmer months.

Anthea added: “Because we have taken over two floors of the building for a longer lease, it allows us the opportunity to host other events, and encourage local groups and people to do the same.

“As well as the exhibition, which kicks off mid-July, we will be hosting a new Farmers’ & Gardeners’ Market in May where we will be also promoting the idea of a food assembly for Clacks, a crafters’ market as part of Artbeat, formerly Open Studios, in June and these will then repeat in the autumn.

“We also have the new Clackmannanshire Tapestry near completion by the artist Andrew Crummy and hope that we will be running sewing workshops, youth, community and history events as it takes shape later in the summer and early autumn.

“We also encourage any groups to approach us to host their own events in the building.”
