A WEE County mum is appealing for the public’s help to get a magical sensory garden built which she says would massively improve her daughter’s difficult life.

Freya Hunter, who suffers from severe cerebral palsy, has entered a competition with MyBuilder.com which, alongside Dobbie’s Garden Centre, is offering the chance to transform a family’s garden into a “magical sensory garden”.

Out of the 1,600 people entered, Freya is amazingly sitting in second place but needs more votes to push her to the very top before voting ends. Her mum, Carolynne, is appealing for the Clacks public to help improve her daughter’s life.

She told the Advertiser what the garden would mean to her family, who live in Tillicoultry: “It would mean we have a place where Freya can be safe and feel comfortable.

“Taking her out can be very difficult for everyone, including her. Having this garden would mean we have a place where we can spend special times together and not have to worry about hassle or if she doesn’t feel comfortable.

“In my mind it would be somewhere where we could lie together and listen to some nice music or just sit and listen to the birds singing. She really loves that – she tries to speak back to them.”

Carolynne lamented the lack of accessible facilities where she can take her eight-year-old daughter as well, which means having the garden would alleviate any stress regarding that.

She added: “On a day where Freya is not feeling well enough to go out, we could still take her into the garden rather than sitting in her bedroom. She could get fresh air and have the experiences of touching and smelling things – experiences we all take for granted.

“Even if she wasn’t that well and needed work done, that could be done in the garden. It would just make such a massive difference to her life.

"I am feeling Freya is very much loved and included in society by the beautiful comments people have made on the competition page despite the fact that Freya is very rarely out and about and no one really comes into regular contact with her.

"So if anything positive comes from this it’s the win of the garden but more importantly the fact that Freya is very much Included. I have to say I’m sure it’s her hearty smile that magnetises people."

If you would like to vote for Freya, then you can do so at https://www.mybuilder.com/competitions/garden-makeover-2018/entries/12608?_ve=eb5f0e7c#.Wuo-GdtoEYE.mailto

The 12 entries with the most votes will be shortlisted and the winner will be selected by MyBuilder.

Voting closes on May 20.
