COCHRANE PARK will be filled with Disney characters later this month when the Alva Fun Day returns.

With fun promised for all the family, the annual event will take place on Saturday, May 26, between 12-4pm, organised by Alva Community Council.

People are being encouraged to dress up as their favourite Disney figures and join the “experi-mental” Absurdist Pipe Band as they march down West Stirling Street to the park with the likes of Mickey and Minnie.

The colourful musical parade will leave from Brook Street outside Alva Baptist Church at 11.45am – those taking part are asked to meet at 11.30am.

A spokesperson for the community council explained this year’s theme: “It offers a chance to escape the real world and be immersed in that time of your life when fairly tales were real and your dreams were all that mattered.

“We are hoping that local school children and adults from Alva and the surrounding area will dress up as their favourite Disney character.”

There will be a temporary closure of the A91 to allow the parade from the Johnstone Arms to the entrance of the park – Police Scotland will be assisting with traffic control.

A range of fun, games and activities will be waiting for people of all ages at the Cochrane.

There will be bouncy castles, a rollercoaster simulator, kids’ rides, a slide, the Tartan Juggler, face-painters and handling opportunities with Owl Magic.

A show of classic cars and motorbikes will also be on alongside a fire engine and the Ochils Mountain Rescue Team.

Organisers are hoping for a warm day with ice cream and refreshments also on offer.

There will, too, be various stalls and a tombola – proceeds will go towards the organisation of future community events by Alva Community Council.

A competition is also available with people encouraged to get a team together and to dress up a bollard in the town centre using the Disney theme, the prize is £50.

Anyone interested in having a stall or in entering the bollard competition can collect forms from Alva Library, Higglety Pigglety or download one from alvacommunitycouncil.org.uk
