A WEE COUNTY chorus brought medals home from a convention in Newcastle at the weekend.

Members of Hillfoot Harmony showed off the silverware at the weekend, after earning second place at the Sweet Adelines regional event, narrowly missing out on a place at the international competition.

Hoping to just do their best and have a bit of fun, they entered in the small chorus category on Saturday, May 12, and were thrilled with the result.

It was the first accolade with the chorus for around half a dozen members and the result lifted the spirits of all involved.

The chorus’ Kirsty Molnar told the Advertiser: “We had a fantastic weekend, singing and socialising with our friends from all around the UK.”

Member Nicky Whyte also received a Woman of Note award, with fellow members praising her for keeping the chorus organised and making sure everyone is at the right place at the right time.

Fellow Scottish group Forth Valley Chorus from Edinburgh were the overall chorus winner. They will represent Region 31, which takes in the UK as well as Holland, at the international convention in the USA next year.

Last weekend’s competition was held at Sage Gateshead in Newcastle, where members of the local group had the chance to see some familiar faces from previous years and also to make some new friends.

Thanks go to “amazing musical director” Catherine Macdonald and all the members who made it happen.

Keen local singers can express an interest in joining and the chorus will be looking for some fresh talent in September.
